Steve Apter Steve Apter QFSM MSc - Former UK Chief Fire Officer and Deputy Commissioner of London Fire Brigade

Steve was recognised by Her Majesty the Queen in the 2020 New Year's Honours List- being awarded the Queens Fire Service Medal for exemplary Leadership within the Fire and Rescue Service. Steve was also awarded the first Honorary Fellowship to the Institute of Search and Technical Rescue in recognition of over 30 years developing and advancing technical rescue standards globally. As National Operational Guidance was introduced into the UK FRS, Steve was the CFO responsible for the creation of the very first strategic guidance for operations across the UK Fire and Rescue Services.

Appointed as Isle of Wight Chief Fire Officer and Director of Community Safety in June 2011. Responsibilities also included countywide Emergency Planning and Business Continuity. Steve instigated and led the UKs first Fire Service strategic partnership with Hampshire and this led to full combination. As Deputy Commissioner for LFB, Steve had responsibility for the Fire Service Counter Terrorism capabilities including its response to CBRN incidents,. Steve advised COBRa, Ministers and Gold commanders during some of the UK's most significant incidents including Grenfell, Westminster Bridge attack and the Salisbury poisoning. Steve was the Fire Gold Commander Coordinating the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire Service response to the Covid pandemic.

Steve was Chair of the UK and World Rescue Organisations and has represented the services across the globe including presenting at the United Nations in New York as well as numerous global conferences as a key note speaker and presenter.

Since leaving operational service in 2021, Steve has worked as a consultant, working with public and private sector specializing in crisis leadership, strategy planning and executive coaching. Steve was also contracted by the NHS to Chair the Strategic Co-ordinating Group as the Omicron variant of COVID emerged. Recently, Steve has spent 12 months living and working in Saudi Arabia as Director for response for the Red Sea Fire and Rescue Service, Steve had responsibility to establish and develop an emergency response capability across all of the Red Sea Global Destinations.
