Gary has over 30 years Policing experience with the Metropolitan Service. During this time serving in a number of specialist policing environments and roles including uniform patrols, criminal investigation, planning, conducting surveillance operations and public order policing.
Gary has extensive experience working in collaboration across partnerships and multi agency environments. During his police service career Gary worked to develop emergency procedures both across London and Nationally. Specifically in the field of Disaster Victim Identification and Humanitarian Assistance programmes. Working comfortably at strategic, tactical, and operational levels.
Gary was seconded as the National Police liaison to Civil Contingencies Secretariat Central Government also playing a role and key part in response to a number of London, National and International major emergencies.
Gary has been engaged on a number of overseas projects. Working in support of the United States and the American Embassy during the events of the September 11 attacks which also led to an invitation to participate in the International Visitors Programme across the USA providing opportunities to gain experience from colleagues in the States as well as lecturing and exercising alongside a number of organisations tasked with civil protection. Whilst seconded to the Civil Contingencies Secretariat Gary was also part of a delegation of Central Government staff travelling to Houston to collaborate with American counterparts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and a second visit to learn lessons as part of the development of UK evacuation procedures.
In 2002 Gary was invited to provide exercise and training in support of the Japanese Government and emergency services in the build up to the co-hosted South Korean and Japanese world soccer cup as well as post games debriefs as part of a department for trade and industry mission.
Gary has also participated in training events and exercise with the EU civil protection mechanism Operational Management experts course held in Stuttgart and Hamburg Germany.
Since leaving the Police Service in 2010 Gary has worked specifically across London local authorities in the development of emergency management planning and response arrangements, security related protest and public disorder planning ,business continuity management, developing and delivering major incident planning exercise and training including the delivery of command training, debriefing, reviews, and audit of organisations resilience planning arrangements.
