Abby Onencan Abby Onencan Disaster Risk Governance and Water Resources Management

Abby completed a PhD at the Delft University of Technology in Disaster Risk Governance within the water sector. She has more than 15 years professional experience in Disaster Risk Management (DRM), Public Administration, Natural Resource Management, and Rural Development in Ethiopia, Kenya, East Africa and the entire Nile Basin.

In 2010 -2014, Abby was the team leader of a $4.5 million multi-country DFID project and a subsequent $1.5 million World Bank project (under the Cooperation in International Waters in Africa Programme). She has 7 years professional expertise in advisory positions to the following government institutions: Kenyan Judiciary under the Governance, Justice, Law and Order Programme, Kenyan Office of the President as a UNDP TA, and Kenyan Local Governments under the EU ACP Rural Poverty Reduction Programme. Between 2007 and 2010, she advised more than 10 local governments on DRM issues, drought management and water resources management as a Rural Service Delivery Adviser (RSDA). From 2018, she is engaged in two EU humanitarian projects: ImProDiReT and iTRACK.
